Kgotso was born with a cleft lip and palate as well as a bilateral radial club hand. He underwent his first stage cleft lip repair surgery at only 11 months of age and at the age of 1 ½ years he received his first stage cleft palate repair. This was followed by a 3rd surgery in 2008 during a Smile Week.

In addition to those surgeries, this brave little boy underwent a further four operations for both his arms and a final stage cleft lip and palate repair. Not only did he face the challenges that come with multiple surgeries, but he was also subjected to teasing at school as a result of the stigma attached to children living with these types of conditions.

Today Kgotso is at a special needs school where he has lots of friends. He is a very happy, well-adjusted child who dreams of one day being a soccer star.

He lives with his loving mom Anna, his caring grandparents Flora and Alpheus, and his dog Sam.

Kgotso is one of the most loving, affectionate and pure souls we’ve had the privilege of meeting. We can learn so much from this brave little boy. He has overcome many hurdles and through it all he is our #SmileHero.

Children like Kgotso need your help.
